Jane & I are at the hospital with Ian.  Sissy just had her first round of radiation, which went well.  This morning Sissy had a procedure done to remove a portion of the tumor that was blocking her airway so they could work on getting her breathing going - that procedure went well.  (This particular cancer is called "Adenocarcinoma".)  They plan on doing radiation every day for the next 15 days.  Ian and Jane are talking to the Dr. and radiation expert now.
In terms of how bad the cancer is...very bad, as bad as you can get.  The belief is that this ultimately came from the ovarian cancer she had (over 20 years ago).  We're helping Ian contact family, as the Dr. said if people want to see her, they best come now as anything can happen at this point.  She'll be unconscious and on the ventilator for several days until they can get her breathing on her own.

I heard from Ian...not the news we were all hoping for...it's cancer.  They plan to start radiation this afternoon.  She's still unconscious and on the ventilator, and they expect her to be unconscious and on the ventilator for another 3 days.
I plan on leaving work just before 1pm to pick up Jane at the airport and head to the hospital.

    As of now...
Sissy is still unconscious, her right lung collapsed at 3am this morning...  She has a chest tube in place and is stable again.  They are expecting to have the biopsy results this morning.  We are praying that it's a viral tumor however everyone is leaning towards cancer.
I'll send an update out as soon as I hear the results or as soon as I get to the hospital.

    Biopsy done.
She is on a ventilator and feeding tube of the next 48 hours.  There is a chance that it is a virus tumor and then they can treat it through one of the current tubes/ IV’s she has in now.  If it’s not a viral tumor it’s cancer…  we should know in the next 48 hours or so…

Wes spoke with Ian about 8:30am this morning  – Earlier this morning the went in with a camera to look around first – not good…good sized mass (very likely a tumor, but will have to wait for biopsy results) at the opening of her lungs…blocking almost all of her airway.  Ian said the Dr. said the biopsy is risky, given the size and location of the mass, so keep her in your thoughts.  He said it’ll be 2 days for biopsy results.
Sissy is headed in now for her biopsy.
Keep her in your prayers.  I’ll be heading over to the hospital as soon as I get home tomorrow.  Cat was home yesterday with a fever so they have not gone to the hospital.

  1. Jerry is Sissy's Uncle. We wanted to let you know that her relatives (Uncle, Aunt - via marriage) and cousins are following the blogs and praying for her and Ian. Our church also is joining in with prayers. We live in the Florida Panhandle - Panama City and Tallahassee.
